Blogging tips

Join me after the Jump

Many of you who read this little blog are bloggers yourselves, so I imagine you'll probably get where I'm coming from when I say:
I. just. gotta. turn. it. off.
I've been blogging nearly four years.  When I started, it was just my little journal to express excitement about whatever, but mostly design stuff.  I didn't care about stats or comments, I just had fun with it.

These days, the need to post regularly, then Tweet, FB, Pin and Instagram about it all has made me question my existence as a blogger.
Maybe that's a tad melodramatic, but what I'm getting at is:  When did it become a job to be a blogger?  I just want to be fun, inspiring, engaging.  To connect with others who want the same.

I'm in the middle of a career reinvention, if you will.  The blog is being redesigned to coincide with my budding business.  So, it seems like a good time to start delineating the "old blogger me" from the "new designer me" by taking a little summer hiatus.

I'm not exactly sure how I will resurface - a rebranded blog, a website, or both, but I'll keep you all in the loop when it happens, and hope you'll join me again when I'm so fresh and so clean, clean!

always,
alison

P.S. - This concludes my participation in the One Room Challenge.  I feel like a total flake, but really - we just moved to Rio - what was I thinking?  Don't worry, though, when it's done, you'll have front-row seats!

I honestly just found your blog about 3 days ago. What a bummer!

But it sounds like you have your hands full and that you may be in the midst of some exciting life changes. Congratulations on that front and hang in there. I'll be waiting for you to resurface -- I thought your posts were fantastic and I only imagine there will more fantastic waiting for me in a few months!

Oh, Alison, I hear ya. I read Jenny's post last night on the same thing. You're definitely not alone. I've only been blogging 2 years and feel this way often. I've just decided to blog when the mood strikes or when I have something important to share (I've never been an every day kind of girl anyway). I need to revamp my blog too at some point to showcase my decorating business as well, but I'm not sure when that will happen. Best wishes on everything! Can't wait to see your new incarnation - I'll be here whenever you're ready!

Sometimes you just gotta take a little break. I will miss your fun posts and quirky sense of humour but I'm excited to read that you are moving your business in a new direction.
I'll still be reading when you come back from your hiatus - and let me know if you'd like some help with your redesign.

I can totally relate. It seems like many long-time bloggers are dealing with similar sentiments. Best of luck to you on your new venture!

Have a nice break! Just to chime in, I love the purple and can see it paired with a leopard print, and then you could use either/and red that has a hint of orange, coral, lime.
I like preppy:)
It's good to scale back... And takes courage to do what is right for you. Good luck unpacking and finding compadres!

Good luck with the reinvention - bravo. Blogging does become work, doesn't it? Will miss you in the room challenge but I totally understand. And moving to Brazil can't be an easy feat. My husband was offered a job in Brazil 4 years ago, we turned it down and ended up leaving Washington DC and coming back home to Canada. Not sure that was the right thing to do, but we always look forward, not back!

Good luck!

yep, yep, and yep. I read ya because I think you're funny and talented and you keep it real. And I appreciate that. So, like Jenny said, see ya on the flip, drip.

You know I totally relate to this... I can't wait to see how your new place comes together and also what direction you go with your business and blog. Definitely keep in touch... it was fun chatting during the blog course last week!

You are so right everyone who blogs (me included) have felt what you are feeling, I think taking a little break is always the best thing. We put too much pressure on ourselves. Have a super fun summer and don't give things a second thought, I have no doubt you'll come back ready to take on your new business!! Good luck!

Girl...it is hard to keep up with it but I have never been an everyday poster. AND...if I don't feel like it then I don't. I am not running for mayor or pres so it really doesn't matter. And yes...all of this social media stuff is crazy. You will enjoy the extra time with your family :)

I know I'm a little late to the party on this, but I'm right there with you. It must be fun and inspiring to continue doing it - and if it isn't, then stop. Rethink. Reimagine. Reinvest in something that moves you. We'll follow you where ever you go. XOXOX

Aww, here's to the return of an oh so fresh and so clean you. Re-charging and reflecting is a must. Hope you've had time to do all that and then some.
