Indian Summer Sighting

Is it too early to start thinking pumpkins and bittersweet? OK, maybe I'm jumping the gun a bit, but it IS the First of September, so at the very least, we can declare ourselves smack dab in the middle of Indian Summer.
You'll have to forgive me...Autumn is my favorite time of year. In my mind's eye, it means crisp weather, college football, and fall festivals - never mind the fact that I don't get to enjoy ANY of that down in Brazil!! I still live in North American seasonal terms, so come September, I start daydreaming of the imminent change of seasons.

When we lived Stateside, I took great joy in tweaking a few things around the house to reflect the seasonal shift. We had a grand front porch in North Carolina, so it goes without saying that the pumpkins and mums became a prominent display. Inside, I'd rotate the crisp and cool colored bed linens to those of chocolate and caramel. I'd burn candles scented with spice and vanilla, and, inevitably, start craving cozy, comfort foods!

Sadly, I don't participate in all that seasonal ceremony down here - it's just not the same. So, I'll reserve my rituals for when we return Home, and in the meantime, live vicariously through these images and (hopefully) your stories of how you honor the change of season.

What do you do to bring the hint of Fall into your home?
Do you bring out a special collection - maybe the goldrenrod pottery?
Do you bring out the cozy wraps and throws (Read: NOT a snuggly!)
Find these here
Do you take every chance you can get to shuffle through fallen leaves, reveling in their soft, earthy scent?pic from here
Do you succumb (with glee!) to seasonal cravings - like these pot pies and toffee-covered apples?
find recipes for both here
Or, do you delight in the simple touches that foretell of goodies to come?
Please, share.

Fall is my ABSOLUTE favorite as well! I love to spend cool afternoons at the apple orchards with the kids and I love to do a little pumpkin them on the mantel.

Yes, yes, and yes!

I've been dreaming about getting ready for Autumn for weeks, and with yesterday's chilly, gray weather we mnade a fantastic cobbler in honor of the season to come.

I think your personal touches from home were wonderful. What cozy and thoughtful ideas!

P.S.-Where in North Carolina did you live? We're Charloteans for the time being, so you've made me very curious.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who can't wait for fall. I got out some of my fall pillows and throws this weekend. (It was cool in the Midwest!)

I like to decorate my front porch by placing a large pumpkin on top of black urns on either side of the door and wrapping some grapevine and bittersweet around the pumpkins.

Alison - in honor of the Fall, I just bought a new deep gold handbag. Can't wait to change my duvet cover, make some chili and pumpkin cinnamon buns either! Cute post today. xxooxxoo!

Fall in the DC area is wonderful. I love decorating with beautiful pumpkins and squashes, indoors and out. I have a special pumpkin patch that sells the most beautiful heirloom pumpkin varieties. I leave these out until Thanksgiving when I start my Christmas decorating.

Naw...I'm like you. Not so much change here. But I love the color of the ocean in the morning...and that we can start putting out more color in our gardens...subtle things!

will be sure to share so you can live vicariously! I honestly don't know if I could like without Fall ...

Fall is my favorite too! Well, actually Christmas is my favorite but Fall would have to tie for first I guess. I love swithcing out all the light blues and greens in my house for darker more cozy colors. I also break out my stash of acorns and always put them on display somewhere. The BF thought I was nutty when I was collecting them outside one day, but they look great in a large glass vase.

I still cant believe summer is over though, kinda sad it went by so fast :(

Fall is my favorite time of year. That's why my husband & I chose to get married in October (we'll celebrate 10 years on Oct. 16!). I love making chili, watching football games, picking pumpkins and dressing in jeans & sweaters. I also love it when Starbuck's breaks out the pumpkin spice latte. Yum!

Fall is my favorite season and while I don't tend to decorate for fall, I love cooking seasonally (pies, in particular!) and I'm a huge fan of Halloween.

We had a cool front come through over the weekend and it's now under 90F...still hot but it feels like fall may be FINALLY coming to TX.

I love fall too. One of the things I miss most since moving to NC from Upstate NY is apple picking with my kids. Your post (almost) makes me want to make the 13 hour trip back home!

I've never lived in a place where there is an actual "fall" time of year before. Our winter back home is hardly even winter compared to here with all its snow. It certainly has me excited to enjoy my first real fall though!

The pumpkin in the light fixture is wonderful. Feels like autumn already where I live -- it's heavenly.
Great blog.

Comfort foods and yummy candles are a must. Also, since I live in Miami and is pretty much tropical all year round I always travel up North to get my fix of fall.

me too alison. always has been my favorite time of year. and as we speak it is quite chilly right now. i have the doors open and the cross breeze is fabulous. i can't wait to get a pumpkin and i usually get one as soon as they are available. as far as changing up the house, i don't REAAALLY...just with flowers and heavier blankets and throw pillows. when are you coming back to the states??
